Wing Ma’am is an app designed by and for LGBTQ women that aims to do it all: “the social networking, the profile-making, the friendships, the matchmaking, the event making, and sure, the inevitable hook-ups that will probably happen… [We want to] break down social barriers in the community… We are all one community strong, and we do not judge. NO MATTER how you identify, or don’t identify,” according to the app’s website.

Check out this trailer to get a feel for what’s being touted as (possibly) a gay girl’s Grindr.

But you love it! Don’t you love it?

Tumblr is a hotbed of lesbian activity and my time honored hobby. My love affair with Tumblr began three years ago, during my senior year of college, when I finally summoned the courage to come out. When a girlfriend told me about tumblr, I created an account and was slowly transfixed by this strange and different world where actual real life lesbians from around the nation proudly talked about life and socialized with each other. Tumblr became my secret outlet and I came out on Tumblr long before most of my friends. On Tumblr, for the very first time, I began to write. Frankly I had no one else to talk to. After I came out my friends drifted away, and I let them. Being gay meant losing a community. Tumblr replaced that community. It was isolated and it was blissfully, wonderfully, all mine.

In an effort to bridge new mediums of information-sharing and raise awareness surrounding a shared history of LGBT-identifying individuals, a new mobile app called Quist became available worldwide today. Released for download on both iPhone and Android, Quist provides daily updates that summarize major landmarks and milestones for the queer community in a “this day in LGBTQ history” framework.

According to the app’s website:

“Historical events in the app paint a picture of how far the LGBTQ community has come over time — how we have been treated, how we have reacted, how our allies have supported us, and how others have worked vehemently to stop the progress. LGBTQ individuals’ contributions to society and events in HIV/AIDS history are also included.”

Tech-front competitors such as Google and Microsoft are putting their differences aside and teaming up together to create the new Intertech Diversity Forum at the London headquarters of Skype; the forum is a LGBT group for London’s tech sector.

Rather than Google and Microsoft being the only two big tech corporations involved, the founding members of the new LGBT group are some of the biggest names in technology: Amazon, Dell, Nokia, BAE Systems, Accenture, Avanade, Ertle Design, Made by Many, Clarity PR, PinkNews and Stonewall are also big influences for Intertech.

Temporarily banned on Tumblr?

BY CHRIS HUQUERIZA

Microblogging platform and social networking website Tumblr restricted the term “gay” as not suitable for work on their iOS application during the weekend of June 20. Now, the popular site has responded to the backlash and restored it, removing the adult flag and instead labeling the content as not safe for work (NSFW). On their mobile platform, the site blocked over 26 tags such as #lesbian, #bisexual, #transsexual, #depression and #blood.

CEO president of Yahoo, which owns Tumblr, Marissa Mayer said, “Unfortunately, different app environments have different requirements that we do our best to adhere to. The reason you see innocent tags like #gay being blocked on certain platforms is that they are still frequently returning adult content which our entire app was close to being banned for,” Karp explained. “The solution is more intelligent filtering which our team is working diligently on. We’ll get there soon. In the meantime, you can browse #lgbtq — which is moderated by our community editors — in all of Tumblr’s mobile apps. You can also see unfiltered search results on tumblr.com using your mobile web browser.”

It must have beguiled and infuriated business travelers during the past couple of years as they watched leisure travelers navigate through airports and into their cabs and shuttles seamlessly thanks to a handy airport app on their iPhones and iPads.

But now, Android users have an upgraded version of the airport app produced by Salk International’s Airport Transit Guide: How to Get from the Airport to the City Worldwide. Users can download the highly rated app and take it for a spin testing out two out of 460 airports worldwide offered by the app for free at Google’s Play Store.

If you like it, you can get the whole thing for $4.99. The app will be available at Amazon Apps soon.

The more than 30 year old guide’s app is among the Top 10 Travel Apps in the U.S. and internationally.

The addition comes after Ron Salk, editor-in-chief and publisher of Salk International’s Airport Transit Guide received hundreds of requests for the airport app from non-iPhone users.

“In response to many hundreds of requests from smartphone owners, we finally had to launch the Android app,” says Salk.

His only wish is that the app could have been released sooner, but other priorities got in the way, he says.

The wait might have been worth it.

The updated app, Version 1.3 of the 25th Edition of the guide, which went digital in 2010, underwent a major upgrade adding hundreds of data changes, a landscape feature making it more readable, and new search functions including a nonwireless connection to access the information. Once the app is downloaded, users can get detailed price, schedule and route information to taxis, shuttles, limousines, buses and trains along with parking rates and other tips without being in a hot spot when hitting dead zones.

When in the zone, the app gives travelers interactive wireless connectivity to the airport and transportation companies, an added bonus that has been popular among the 27.9 million iPhone and 7.7 million Android users that like the app at iTunes.

Users will also appreciate that in exchange for a higher price tag the app is ad free and has no plans to pick up ads again in the future.

“We had 99% 5-star reviews,” says Salk, “except for a couple of iPhone reviewers who did not think that we should accept ads on a paid app, even though they were not transportation related. We agreed and dropped the ads.”

The Airport Transit Guide, founded in 1982, was converted from print to digital in 2010, with its 25th Edition.

I love the internet and large groups of unknown lesbians give me anxiety-driven bitch face, so dating via the App store sounds like a fabulous idea to me. Anything to avoid in person rejection/rejecting. Online dating is nothing new, and while some straight people might hesitate to post their personals on the internet for fear of stigma, almost every lesbian I know has at some point gone online to find lurve or at least sex. It just makes sense; gay-dar has limitations, lesbian nights can feel far and feel between, and meeting a girl organically can feel impossible as a gay woman.

The social media site and 3D virtual world IMVU is celebrating Gay Pride Month with a new feature: weddings, which included marriage equality right from the star. The company’s headquarters are in the San Francisco Bay Area, and within the game world Pride is taking center stage; the in-game store is offering limited-edition Pride gear, and an online global “block party” is happening on June 28. This year, players also had a new way to celebrate love; a month before Pride 2013, a new release gave IMVU characters the option of getting married.

As in real life, marriage does include certain benefits; profiles are linked together and a new “life status” displayed on both users’ profile cards. Additionally, unlike the now-defunct Sims Social, married characters have a shared room to decorate. Through the end of the month, IMVU’s Photo Stream, where community members can share and showcase their IMVU photos, will be featuring Pride-themed photos; players can also select a Pride-themed frame for their default pictures.

Legal or not, gay couples around the world have been getting married in creative ways forever. In celebration of that love, Google Hangouts has a new ad about one especially unique way it can be used: to have a wedding ceremony in a country where same-sex marriage isn’t legal, conducted via video call by someone in a country where it is.

Though such a ceremony would be only symbolic in countries where marriage equality is not recognized regardless of where the wedding was held, including the United States, for those whose countries do recognize them, having their ceremony online might mean the difference between having to save up for years to be able to make the trip–or never being able to be legally wed at all.

The federal government, state governments and car dealers are offering some pretty sweet perks to boost the adoption of electric cars.

Limited availability of charging stations in some areas — and the accompanying fear of being caught far from home with a dead battery — has made many wary of investing in these kinds of vehicles.

To counter this, the federal government currently offers a $7,500 tax credit for electric car adopters. Many states provide incentives as well, like California’s $5,000 rebate, ABC News reports.
