Lesbian rumors have followed Sugarland songstress Jennifer Nettles for some years, due in part to lyrics like “It’s crotch propaganda /Bat for both teams /and it’s me not choosing sides/ Standing in between.”

The 39-year-old country star opened up to PrideSource about the gay rumors — and the “On the Shoulders of Giants” lyrics — in an interview published Tuesday.

With the release of a new PSA from the captain of the Colorado Avalanche hockey team, the NHL has become the first sports league in North America to support gay rights across the board.

According to a statement released by the You Can Play Project, members from all teams in the National Hockey League have voiced their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) athletes and fans.

The Minnesota Vikings issued a statement on Thursday denying the allegation by former punter Chris Kluwe that he had been cut for his advocacy of same-sex marriage. The brief press release came hours after Deadspin published a first-person article by Kluwe titled “I Was An NFL Player Until I Was Fired By Two Cowards And A Bigot.” In his scathing piece, Kluwe, the Vikings’ punter from 2005 to 2012, wrote that he was “pretty confident” he was released in May 2013 due to his activism.

“Any notion that Chris was released from our football team due to his stance on marriage equality is entirely inaccurate and inconsistent with team policy,” the statement from Vikings PR responded. “Chris was released strictly based on his football performance.”

A new project inspired by the popular “It Gets Better” campaign aims to give a voice to pro-LGBT Christians who proclaim they’re “Not All Like That,” referring to the anti-gay rhetoric espoused by some conservative Christians.

The effort, dubbed the NALT Christians Project, debuted on Wednesday and will allow Christians to post videos on its website to express support for LGBT people and refute anti-LGBT rhetoric. It’s similar to the “It Gets Better” project, which enabled LGBT people and public figures to tell LGBT youth their lives will improve.

Dan Savage, an LGBT advocate who founded the “It Gets Better” project, created the premiere video for the NALT Christian Project and called on Christians to create videos to demonstrate they’re “not all like that” in terms of holding anti-LGBT views.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has said having an openly gay teammate “really wouldn’t bother me that much” but admits that it could make him uncomfortable in certain situations. These comments come more than a week after he said that gay marriage is “not something I believe in” during a radio interview.

Speaking to the Oklahoman on Monday, the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player talked about the aspects of having an openly gay teammate that could make him “uncomfortable.”

Chelsea Clinton announced on May 28 that she intends to follow in her parents’ footsteps and become an advocate for, among other issues, LGBT rights.

The former President Bill Clinton and First Lady turned former Secretary of State’s only child, Clinton said to the Associated Press in an interview that she will be focusing on work with the Clinton Foundation, founded by her father, where she will help promote health projects: “not just in the United States but also around the world.”
