Three years after its 2010 founding, courtesy of Dan Savage and Terry Miller, the It Gets Better Project (IGB) launched a new video campaign in response to Russia’s discriminatory anti-gay laws. With the message of the project simply being: “life does get better for LGBT youth,” the organization hopes to shine a positive light on Russian youth with its new initiative.

“The It Gets Better Project hopes to reach the millions of LGBT youth in Russia to show they have international support against the outright discrimination happening across their country,” said the organization’s executive director, Ted Farley. “We want every gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individual to know they are beautiful, valued and important, and that their friends and allies in the international community are keeping a close eye on their situation while working to end such injustice.”

The NASA JSC It Gets Better video is a video project created by the “Out & Allied @ JSC Employee Resource Group” of NASA’s Johnson Space Center. It was created as an outreach tool primarily directed at high school and college-aged lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals who are victims of bullying and/or have been affected by bullying. This video sends the message to current and future NASA employees that it is OK to be LGBTQ, and that NASA JSC management supports and encourages an inclusive, diverse workforce in our workplace.

A series of anti-gay remarks made by San Francisco 49ers cornerback Chris Culliver cast the Super Bowl-bound team in a negative light just days ahead of the NFL championship game. Though Culliver has since apologized for the controversial statements, the backlash seems unlikely to dissipate now that a new wrinkle has emerged. The 49ers’ linebacker Ahmad Brooks and nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga, both of whom participated in the team’s widely-praised “It Gets Better” video last summer, have denied ever producing the clip.

The players told USA Today Sports that they didn’t realize the video’s aim was to specifically combat bullying experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) teens.

Fans of the Emmy-nominated “It Gets Better” project will be happy to learn that an all-new, 60-minute special will return to both MTV and Logo two days ahead of National Coming Out Day.

Viacom officials confirmed the new show, set to air Oct. 9, in an email to HuffPost Gay Voices. Renowned lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocate and syndicated columnist Dan Savage will once again anchor the special.
