The Gay and Lesbian International Sport Association (GLISA) today greets reports from Reuters that the International Olympic Committee may force future bidders to abide by a specific anti-discrimination rule modeled on the Olympic Charter’s Principle 6.

“The International Olympic Committee has until now refused to get involved and condemn homophobia and transphobia in the host country for the 2014 Winter Olympics, Russia,” said Marie Houzeau of the GLISA Executive Committee.

GLISA seeks the addition of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity to the Olympic Charter. GLISA further urges the IOC to never again award the Olympic Games to a country which does not respect the charter. “Russia has proven to be too controversial a host nation for the Olympic ideal,” said Houzeau.

“We have never been indie anything. We signed to a major label when we were 19 years old.”

“We wanted to access the mainstream and make a difference … but we are still Tegan and Sara and that hasn’t changed.”

Tegan Quin swears she never saw it coming. Long known as half of the Canadian indie rock band Tegan and Sara, she says she had no idea that their latest studio album would catapult them to mainstream pop success. In fact, the thought that she would even have a career in music never crossed her mind when she was young. (She and her twin sister Sara are now 33.)

“We didn’t really imagine we’d be doing this, so I think Kid Tegan would be like, ‘Whaaat? Whaaat?’ We didn’t sit down and decide that this is what we wanted to do,” she says, at home in Los Angeles on a rare break from touring.

Keep Calm and Enjoy Being Single memeBY DR.FRANKIE BASHAN

Dr. Frankie.

I am a 38 year old single lesbian. I am quite content being single, and it seems other people are more worried about me finding a special someone than I am. In the past ten years I can count on one hand the women I have been ‘interested’ in. That would be two. I was somewhat smitten with both of them, we became friends but both were in relationships so nothing ever progressed with me. We remain friends and I am thankful for their friendship. My question is, should I be worried by the fact that I am rarely attracted to women and don’t actively look to meet anyone? As I said at the start I am perfectly happy but my friends seem to think I should be trying to find a relationship.

Dear Feeling Pressured-

It sounds like you’re very content being on your own and the only real concern you have is that your friends worry about you. In our society we’re led to believe that we need to be paired or matched to be truly happy. Research tends to support this by showing that when we’re in a healthy, happy relationship we live longer and are healthier physically and emotionally. With that said, I don’t believe that we need to be in a partnership to feel complete. Although it often makes our friends and family, those who love and care for us, feel better when they see us sharing our lives with someone. It’s important to recognize that that’s their anxiety and/or uneasiness, and not something you need to take on. There was a recent article published about American women marrying not just later in life, but less than ever. It is becoming more acceptable to be single, but there is absolutely still the element of societal pressure to partner up. I say give yourself the permission to live the life you’d like to live. If and when you’re ready to be in a relationship, you will know it.

“Everybody’s Girl” was an early incarnation of Jen Foster’s work back in 2003, and her first official CD release. The listener is introduced to Foster through the catchy title track that has you singing the chorus from the first bar and followed by the up-tempo “Used Black Cars”.

This solid and catchy pop album has undertones of country that simmer through most of her work. On this record those undertones are notable on tracks “Superwomen,” “Ready To Go” and “The One Who Got Away”.

Dyke, pansexual, genderqueer, bi, trans*, grandma, mother, asian, black, white, hispanic, bipolar disorder, eating disorder, freelance writer, filmmaker, fat, introvert, beautiful, ugly — labels, we’re assigned them at birth, some we claim for our own and others society propels on us. These labels, whether we welcome them or not, impact our human experience. The Human Experience (T.H.E.), a new online queer publication, is launching a writing campaign to showcase the diversity of the human experience.

If a lesbian sleeps with a man, does that revoke her lesbian status? If a bisexual woman is dating a man, does that make her straight? If she’s dating a woman, does that make her a lesbian? Can we change someone’s identity by imposing labels on them? T.H.E. wants to showcase the diversity of the human experience by having you submit yours. They want you to write about who you are beyond your labels, and they want to know what your labels mean to you.

To learn more about T.H.E. writing campaign, click here, and to learn how to submit your human experience and enter the giveaway, join the I Am The Human Experience Facebook event (click here to join).

Thought The Dinah’s entertainment line up couldn’t get any bigger than Tegan and Sara, Mary Lambert and Iggy Azalea? Think again! After all, what’s a party without some first class R&B?

Grammy Award winner Melissa Etheridge has written and recorded a new anthem entitled “Uprising of Love”, which has become the inspiration for a new coalition by the same name, Uprising of Love, a movement in support of the safety and dignity of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Russians. In advance of the songs official release in January 2014, Etheridge shares today a special remix of “Uprising of Love” as a sneak preview of her new track and asks you to join her in this international uprising of love by spreading the message of love through lyric.

“We have worked so hard to create change and equality for the LGBT community in the U.S. and it’s shocking to see such backwards movement in Russia. This song is a direct call to action for people to get involved, become vocal, and connect directly with this serious issue. There is no time to waste and that’s why I chose to let this remix debut ahead of the January 2014 release of the original version,” explains Melissa Etheridge, co-founder of the Uprising of Love coalition. “I felt that we needed to go into the new year creating an international uprising of love to let the LGBT people of Russia know that they are not alone, and that the rest of the world is here to help.”
