A DATE FOR MAD MARY tells the story of ‘Mad’ Mary McArdle returning to her small Irish home town after a short spell in prison – for something she’d rather forget. But everything and everyone seems different. Her best friend, Charlene, is about to get married and Mary is maid of honor. When Charlene refuses Mary a ‘plus one’ on the grounds that she probably couldn’t find a date, Mary becomes determined to prove her wrong. Her attempts at dating are a disaster and she winds up feeling more alone… until she meets Jess – the lesbian wedding photographer – and everything changes.

It is a tough and tender story about friendship, first love, and letting go of the glory days, starring Seána Kerslake (Can’t Cope/Won’t Cope, The Lobster), Tara Lee (Raw, The Fall) and Charleigh Bailey.

Coca Cola deletes gay marriage scene from commercial

Coca-Coca included a gay wedding in its new ad, but perhaps it got cold feet: The soda giant omitted the scene in a version for Ireland.

The “Reasons To Believe” spot seen in the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom features feel-good moments, including two men posing for the cameras at their wedding. But the ad running in Ireland replaced the snippet with the heterosexual nuptials of an interracial pair.

Gay adoption ban lifted in Northern Ireland

LGBT rights advocates in Northern Ireland continue to celebrate the lifting of a ban on gay couples adopting children.

The Belfast Telegraph on Wednesday reported the government made the announcement after a group of gay activists interrupted a Nov. 27 meeting that Northern Ireland Health Minister Edwin Poots attended.

Poots challenged a Northern Ireland Court of Appeal ruling in June that said the adoption ban violated European human rights law. The U.K. Supreme Court on Nov. 1 denied Poots’ request to appeal the decision.
