Ellen DeGeneres reclaimed her spot atop Out magazine’s Power 50 list, the publication’s ranking of the most influential LGBT voices in American culture.

DeGeneres traded spots with Apple CEO Tim Cook after a year in which the comedian saw her daytime talk show ratings and popularity soar. Earlier this year, DeGeneres’ gained notoriety for “the selfie that broke Twitter” during her gig as Oscars host.

“Everybody loves Ellen, and that’s one of the reasons she’s regained the top spot,” Out wrote.

Lesbians had a strong showing on the magazine’s 8th annual list with MSNBC news anchor/political commentator Rachel Maddow (#3), U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (#4) and television host Robin Roberts (#10) joining DeGeneres in the top 10. Other notables included actresses Jane Lynch (#20) and Ellen Page (#29), WNBA star Brittney Griner (#31) and television host and author Suze Orman (#35).

While it appears that the President’s visit to the Funny or Die web series was a success — Obama managed to both demonstrate his flare for comedy while sending droves of viewers to the Healthcare.org website — those on the right seized the opportunity to pounce on the President, asserting that his appearance was undignified.

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, however, debunked those critics in a segment on her show earlier this week.

Rachel Maddow will write a monthly column for The Washington Post, the newspaper announced in a memo on Wednesday.

The Post’s Erik Wemple reported that Maddow will write an opinion column once a month according to a six-month deal she has made with the paper. The MSNBC host has written for the newspaper before, and the first of her regular pieces will appear in the newspaper this week, according to a memo to staffers on Wednesday.

Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy are being celebrated by nearly everyone in American politics, from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to President Barack Obama. But the U.S. government aggressively opposed Mandela’s political goals for decades. While President Ronald Reagan’s support for the apartheid state is well documented, Clinton’s work to undermine the economic foundation of the nascent Mandela-led South African republic is sometimes overlooked.

A nonprofit LGBT rights organization has called for NBC to make Rachel Maddow part of the network’s Sochi 2014 Olympics coverage.

Truth Wins Out launched a petition earlier this week urging NBC to name Maddow as a “special human rights correspondent” to ensure “fair and accurate coverage” of the Sochi games. The petition read:

“NBC’s Olympic coverage has long featured myriad human interest pieces, about the athletes competing, and about all aspects of life in the home nation. There is more than enough time in prime time Olympic coverage for hard-hitting pieces exposing the reality of what LGBT people, political dissidents and other minorities face every day under the Putin regime.

Rachel Maddow is one of the most respected television journalists in the United States, with a reputation for being thorough, fair, informative and entertaining.”
