The 66th Primetime Emmy Award nominees were announced Thursday and the first season of the Netflix series “Orange is the New Black” earned a dozen nods, the most for any comedy.

The show is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series and also received recognition for Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Art Direction. Three episodes were honored with nods for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing, as well. The Outstanding Directing nomination was for Jodie Foster’s work on episode three, “Lesbian Request Denied,” and marks the second time she’s been nominated for an Emmy.

Individual nominations went to Taylor Schilling (Lead Actress in a Comedy Series) and Uzo Aduba, Laverne Cox, Natasha Lyonne and Kate Mulgrew (all nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category).

Cox’s nomination is another history making moment for the actress who recently graced the cover of Time magazine. The Emmy selection makes Cox the first openly transgender actress to receive the honor.

The Emmy Awards will be presented on August 25, 2014.

Academy-award winning actor Jodie Foster, 51, put a ring on it over the weekend, wedding girlfriend Alexandra Hedison.

The couple has been dating over a year.

Foster came out publicly at the Golden Globes last year after decades of speculation over her orientation. Foster has two sons, Charles and Kit, with Cydney Bernard with whom she had a relationship for 20 years. They split in 2008, but continue to co-parent their sons.

Hedison, a photographer and actor who was a regular on “The L Word,” dated comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres for three years. DeGeneres left Hedison for Portia DeRossi in 2004.

Foster’s rep confirmed the weekend nuptials. While not much is known about the couple, who only recently began to appear together publicly, it’s clear from a survey of online photos that the pair shares a love of culottes in various shades of tan. It’s the first marriage for both.

Months after making headlines for subtly acknowledging her sexuality in her Golden Globes acceptance speech, Jodie Foster reportedly has a brand new girlfriend. E! Online reports that the Academy Award-winning actress, 50, has been “quietly dating” photographer Alexandra Hedison.

Hedison, 44, is no stranger to the Hollywood scene. In addition to having dated Ellen DeGeneres, she appeared on Showtime’s “The L Word” as Dylan Moreland. Her acting resume also includes stints on “Prey,” “L.A. Firefighters,” and the original “Melrose Place.”

Jodie Foster stars as the antagonist in Neill Blomkamp’s “Elysium,” making her one of the few female villains on screen this summer. In a new interview with EW.com, however, Blomkamp revealed that Foster’s character was initially written as a male, before he had a change of heart. It was then that Foster entered into his thinking for the role.

“I thought, ‘That would be f–king awesome, but there’s just no way,” Blomkamp said about casting Foster. “But then, within, like, a day I had a meeting with her and she said, ‘I want to play it.’ I was like, ‘Holy sh-t!'”

Jodie Foster ended years of rampant media speculation when she casually came out of the closet while accepting her Cecil B. Demille award at the Golden Globes Sunday night.

After being introduced by Robert Downey Jr., Foster coyly said, “While I’m here being all confessional, I just have the sudden urge to say something I’ve never been able to air in public. A declaration that I’m a little nervous about. Not quite as nervous as my publicist, huh, Jennifer? But uh, you know, I’m just going to put it out there. Loud and proud. I’m going to need your support. I am — single!”

It looks like Jodie Foster wasn’t kidding when she said she was looking at cable TV. According to Deadline, Foster will direct and produce a mob drama for Showtime.

The project, “Angie’s Body,” will be written by Rob Fresco and follows a woman who runs her family’s crime syndicate. Foster and Fresco will executive produce the project.

“I think I may spend some time on cable,” Foster told the Associated Press in July.
